MY MODULES
Software Development (US820)
YEAR 1 - CORE FOUNDATIONS
Introduction to Programming
I developed strong programming fundamentals, focusing on logical thinking, problem-solving, and writing clear, structured code that forms the basis of all my development work. I applied C++ to implement algorithms and practice structured programming techniques, strengthening my problem-solving skills.
Tech stack: C++
Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming
This module introduced me to object-oriented principles such as classes, objects, and encapsulation, helping me design modular and maintainable software. I used C++ to create classes and objects, experimenting with inheritance and encapsulation to build reusable, structured code.
Tech stack: C++
Structured Programming
I strengthened my understanding of structured programming techniques, including loops, functions, and control flow, improving the reliability and readability of my code. I implemented these techniques in C++, creating structured programs that reinforced coding best practices.
Tech stack: C++
Responsive Design and Web Development
I learned how to design and build responsive, accessible websites that adapt to different devices, combining usability, accessibility standards, and modern front-end practices. I designed layouts and wireframes using Figma, built web pages with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, selected typography with Google Fonts, and tested accessibility using the WAVE Accessibility Tool.
Tech stack: Figma, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Google Fonts, WAVE Accessibility Tool
Structured Query Language (SQL) Essentials
This module taught me how to design and query relational databases efficiently, enabling me to manage and retrieve data in real-world applications. I wrote queries and managed databases using SQL, and analysed and visualised results with Microsoft Excel to gain insights from the data.
Tech stack: SQL, Microsoft Excel
Operating Systems Fundamentals
I gained insight into how operating systems manage processes, memory, and file systems, giving me a deeper understanding of how software runs at a system level. I explored Ubuntu (Linux), using the command line to manage files, processes, and system operations.
Tech stack: Ubuntu (Linux)
YEAR 2 - APPLIED DEVELOPMENT & SYSTEMS
Data Design and Programming
I expanded my database skills by combining data modelling with programming techniques, allowing me to design and build well-structured, data-driven applications. I implemented databases in MariaDB (SQL), tested and hosted applications using XAMPP, modelled data with MySQL Workbench, including EER diagrams, and documented my designs using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Tech stack: MariaDB (SQL), XAMPP, MySQL Workbench, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint
Discrete Mathematics
This module strengthened my logical and analytical thinking through topics such as sets, relations, and formal logic, which are essential for understanding algorithms and computation. I applied these concepts to develop a menu-driven application using C#, while using Microsoft Excel to organise and calculate relevant data.
Tech stack: Microsoft Excel, C#
Fundamentals of Data Structures & Algorithms
I developed a strong understanding of core data structures and algorithms, enabling me to write more efficient, scalable, and performance-focused code. I implemented arrays, linked lists, and trees in C++ to solve computational problems and improve program efficiency.
Tech stack: C++
Networking Fundamentals
I gained a foundational understanding of how computer networks operate, including how data is transmitted between systems and across the internet. I simulated networks using Cisco Packet Tracer and analysed traffic with Wireshark to understand protocols and data flow.
Tech stack: Cisco Packet Tracer, Wireshark
Object-Oriented Theory and Programming
I advanced my object-oriented programming skills, focusing on software design principles, abstraction, and building more complex, maintainable systems. I applied C# to develop object-oriented applications, practising abstraction, inheritance, and modular design.
Tech stack: C#
Software Development
This module introduced me to the software development lifecycle and UML modelling, helping me approach software problems in a structured and professional way. I created UML diagrams in Visual Paradigm to model systems and documented my development process using Microsoft Word.
Tech stack: Visual Paradigm, Microsoft Word
